Have you ever wondered, “What protein powders should I be buying?” or, “Is there a difference between the brands on the shelf?” Essentially, yes, there is a difference between protein powders and not every single one is built the same. Here are a few things to look for when you are buying your next protein powder:
Informed Choice Check. Informed Choice is a global quality assurance program that tests for banned substances and impurities in various sport brand supplements. Try spotting this check on your next protein powder run to ensure you are buying quality, tested ingredients.
Avoid artificial sweeteners and preservatives. In order to be consistent with clean eating and a healthy diet, look for natural sweeteners within protein powders instead of artificial ones. Sweeteners such as stevia, monk fruit, erythritol, or allulose are great natural options.
Consider choosing whey isolate. Whey isolate goes through more processing, which results in a higher protein content with less carbohydrates, lactose and fat than typical whey proteins. In terms of digestion, whey isolate is also a better option because it is easier to digest whether you are lactose intolerant or not. Most of the lactose and sugars are removed during processing; however, if you have a dairy allergy, it would be better to look for plant-based protein options.
Always do your research on protein powders beforehand and find one that best fits your dietary and digestion needs. Protein supplements are not necessary to reach your fitness goals, but are a great addition if you struggle to hit your protein goal or in need of a convenient source of protein. Aim to grab powders that supply at least 20 grams of protein and have clean ingredients. Want even more dietary and health tips? JPFIT4LIFE can help.
